How to approach Shadow Serpent Color Sort

Read the tubes before moving a color

Shadow Serpent Color Sort is a planning puzzle. Before moving the top color, scan the full board and identify which tubes can become permanent homes for a color. A legal move is not always a useful move, especially when it covers a color needed next.

Keep at least one flexible space when possible.
Finish an easy color stack to simplify the remaining board.
Pause after a move that reveals a new top color and reassess.

Recover from a crowded board

When the board feels blocked, work backward from the color closest to completion. Find the pieces that prevent that stack from forming, then use temporary space only for those blockers. Random shuffling can create more work and make the original plan harder to remember.

Undo a move when it clearly removes flexibility.
Restarting is useful when the opening plan created a dead end.
Separate planning moves from finishing moves.

Build a repeatable solving habit

A reliable routine is to scan, choose one target color, clear its blockers, and then scan again. Higher difficulty rewards patience more than speed. If a level stalls, step away briefly and return with a fresh view instead of repeating the same sequence automatically.

Use an empty tube to uncover a blocked color

An empty tube is useful because it lets you change which color is accessible. This small example follows the whole sequence, including the temporary move that makes the solution possible.

The starting position

Each tube holds two pieces. Move one top piece at a time onto the same color or into an empty tube. Read each tube from top to bottom. The goal is two full, single-color tubes.

Why the first move matters

At the start, neither full tube can accept another piece. Moving red into the empty tube does not complete a color immediately, but it exposes the blue needed for the next move. Judge a move by what it reveals and what space remains, not only by whether a tube looks tidier.

Try the mirror solution

Start again and move B’s top blue into C instead. Then move A’s red into B and A’s remaining blue into C. You still finish in three moves. On a larger board, compare both possible openings before using your last empty tube; a deeper hidden color can make one opening more useful.
